Adolescent Discovered Deceased After False Allegations of Stealing Ashes
One teenage boy was found dead just days following being wrongly accused of taking the ashes of a deceased infant during a burglary, an inquest has learned.
Tragic Discovery
Kai Lloyd's mother and father discovered his remains in his bedroom at his Connah's Quay residence on November 19th, 2021.
False Allegations Start
The inquest learned how his parent received a message on November 8th, 2021 via online platforms, from a woman inquiring if Kai was her offspring. The message added: "Inform him thanks for burgling my apartment."
In a testimony presented to the court, the mother said the woman had been in the news, asserting her infant's ashes had been stolen in a burglary - a allegation which was false.
Police Inquiry
An official inquiry from authorities later determined the supposed break-in victim had "lied to police" and "evidence shows that said items was never stolen in the beginning".
News coverage about the supposed taken remains attracted social media responses, and although Kai was not identified in the messages, his parent said people "knew it was him".
The "social media content were extremely upsetting", she stated.
Emotional Wellbeing Effect
She added that her son had been identified with mild attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and as part of that disorder, other peoples' views really were important to him.
"It would have affected him severely," she commented, "especially when this was untrue".
Kai was detained at his residence, but no evidence was discovered. He was transported to a law enforcement facility and later freed under investigation.
Police said they would be in contact, the hearing heard, but had not reached out to the family by the moment of his passing.
Withdrawal and Anxiety
His mother said her son "withdrew into himself" after the detention and "repeatedly inquired me whether I had received anything from the authorities", because his condition meant sometimes "certain periods could feel like much longer".
When she spoke to him about the alleged burglary, she said her child told her he had gone into the residence because the woman who resided there had said he could use the toilet whenever he wanted, but denied taking anything.
Digital Harassment
In a combined testimony between her and her spouse, the mother said her son was being harassed digitally after the accusations.
The inquest heard that one young adult urged Kai to kill himself.
She had no worries on the night before he passed away, describing how she had listened to him "laughing and teasing".
She portrayed him as a "compassionate, loving" boy, and said her "relatives is completely shattered".
He had been "clearly concealing his concerns", she stated, noting that he could not stand to have anybody "have negative thoughts of him".
Educational Reaction
The hearing heard from educational staff at the local High School.
On November 8th, she "heard some boys discussing that the student had been arrested and that was the initial I learned".
"He informed me... he'd was innocent," she added.
After the conversation, the staff member said she called the family's family telephone and left a message saying she had communicated to Kai about the accusations.
The court learned his family said they did not receive that message.
Official Finding
Senior coroner informed the inquest he would wait for documents regarding what enhancements had been made to dealing with suspects with the condition, before deciding whether he should make a avoidance of future deaths report.
Providing a descriptive finding, he said: "Around 8 November 2021, unsubstantiated accusations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a young child.
"Probably untruths were subsequently exaggerated and exaggerated through the platform of online networks.
"On November 11th, he was interviewed by the police and after his interview he was released while inquiries continued."
The official determined: "There is no evidence that the acts or failures of any organization caused or contributed to his death and although it was the outcome of a self-inflicted act it is impossible to discern his intent."
