A senior officer who rushed to the help of a colleague that was assaulted by a blade-wielder was granted the Royal Recognition for Valor.

Sgt Tim Ansell grappled with twenty-seven-year-old Jacob Brown subsequent to he pressed a blade to the throat of his colleague Sgt Marc Foster.

Brown began the violence as the law enforcement personnel and their third officer, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a motorist after a vehicle incident in the area in July 2023.

Brown stabbed and slashed both Sergeant Ansell and Sergeant Foster prior to Police Constable Wolstencroft incapacitated him with a Taser.

"Policeman attacked," PC Wolstencroft stated over his radio.

Bodyworn and vehicle camera recording shared by the police department showed Brown, wearing in black with a hood up, approach to Sgt Foster from the rear with a knife outstretched.

He ran into the policeman who tripped and went down to the street, after which Sgt Ansell stepped in and struggled to restrain him to the pavement despite being continually attacked with the knife.

Police Constable Wolstencroft drew his Taser and waited for a safe opportunity, bringing the fight to an finish.

Sgt Ansell was heard stating: "Can I get something on my neck now, I'm bleeding in the neck."

Sgt Ansell sustained two deep cuts to his neck and additional cuts to his arms and body, whereas Sergeant Foster suffered cut injuries.

Authorities said Sgt Foster utilized his palms to stem his colleague's bleeding before emergency responders came.

The latest honor comes after the law enforcement team received internal Valor Recognitions in fall 2023 and the police federation award from the regional Police Federation in spring 2024.

They were also awarded a North West Valor Recognition in July 2024.

"The actions of each policeman ultimately rescued one another and resulted in no members of the public experienced any harm."

Brown was sentenced to an indefinite hospital order in early 2024, per authorities.
